Declaration of consent
Welcome to our study! Before you decide to participate in this study, it is important that you understand why it is being conducted and what it involves. Therefore, please take the time to read the following information carefully. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
Who is behind this study?
This study is part of a research project led by Dr Lone Sorensen and Dr Matthias Revers (University of Leeds) and in collaboration with Prof. Michael Brüggemann (University of Hamburg) who conducts similar research in Germany.
Aim of the study
The study explores conversations across political disagreements regarding climate politics. This survey serves to match you with another participant for such a conservation.
Study Procedures
We will ask you to complete a quick questionnaire with questions about your opinions on climate politics. Your participation is voluntary and should take no longer than 5 minutes. You can refuse to answer individual questions or stop the online survey altogether at any time. After you have completed the survey, we will get in touch by email and invite you to a conversation with another participant about one of the questions on which you disagree. Most conversations will take place online. We are interested in how you work through any disagreements on this topic. You will be free to leave the conversation at any time if you feel uncomfortable or change your mind about participating. You can also withdraw your permission to use the recording for transcription after the conversation took place by getting in touch with us.
What happens to my answers?
Your answers to our questions will serve to match you with another participant with whom you will be invited to have a conversation. The conversations will be recorded but kept anonymous and strictly confidential. Only the audio recording will be used for transcription and discarded afterwards. Data analysis will only use the transcripts for purely scientific purposes.
Risks and benefits of the study
Your participation does not involve any personal risks for you but has a high benefit for the scientific understanding of the dynamics of conversations across political divides. It is therefore particularly important for the success of the study that you answer all questions truthfully.
Data protection
The use of your data follows the legal data protection regulations. In particular, all your answers will be treated as strictly confidential and will only be used in anonymous form. The research team needs to link your answers to you.
