Introduction

What is this study about?

This is a questionnaire-based study to investigate risk communication preferences and strategies. We would like to understand how clinicians approach discussions surrounding treatment risk and benefits with their patients and examine their preferences for different communication formats.

What will this involve and how long will it take?

The questionnaire generally takes 10-20 minutes to complete. You will be asked questions about your risk communication preferences and will be asked to solve some problems.

Responses are anonymous but there are options following the survey for you to leave contact details if you would like to be considered to take part in further research into clinical risk communication, or to receive a report of the findings. These details will not be linked to your responses.

Participation in the study is voluntary and you can withdraw at any point by closing this webpage. NHS employees are not expected to take part in this study during their normal working hours.

Who has reviewed the study?

Ethical approval has been granted by the University of Leeds School of Dentistry Research Ethics Committee (Ref:040321/AJ/321)

What will happen to the information collected?

Once the study is complete a report will be written based on the findings. You may, if you wish, have a copy of this report by providing contact details in the appropriate section of the questionnaire. It is not possible to identify or withdraw responses once submitted.

We will publish our findings in professional and academic journals. You will not be personally identified in any report or publication and direct quotations will not be used. Following publication the data will be made publicly available via the University of Leeds Data Repository to allow academic challenge and for use in future research. Data is typically stored for ten years.
